Founder Story

Paul Chung, MD

Meet Paul Chung, MD

Dr. Chung was commissioned in the US Navy in 2000, and received his medical degree from Uniformed Services University, in Bethesda, MD. He went on to complete his transitional internship at Naval Medical Center San Diego. Dr. Chung then served as a flight surgeon for 7 years, separating from the US Navy as a Lieutenant Commander. He graduated from UCLA San Fernando Valley psychiatry residency, and then completed a one year fellowship in Addiction Psychiatry.

He is double board-certified in General Psychiatry and Addiction Psychiatry, through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. Chung takes the time to carefully listen to all of a patient's concerns, before making any decisions regarding treatment. He is dedicated to empowering his patients to take control of their lives no matter what mental condition they are suffering from. He can treat his patients with psychotherapy, medications, or a combination of both.

Costs & What You'll Pay

How TRICARE Covers Online Mental Health Care

Therapy vs Psychiatry (What's the difference?)

Therapy

Focuses on talk-based treatment, coping tools, and behavior change with a licensed therapist.

Common use cases include stress, anxiety, relationship strain, trauma symptoms, and life transitions.

Psychiatry

Focuses on diagnosis, medication assessment, and ongoing medication management by a prescribing clinician.

Common use cases include complex symptoms, medication questions, or when therapy alone is not enough.

Which one should I choose? Many people start with therapy. If medication evaluation may help, psychiatry can be added as part of a coordinated plan.

Do I Need a Referral?

Active Duty

Referral requirements often apply for specialty behavioral health care and may involve your PCM or military treatment facility workflows.

Dependents

Dependents typically do not require a referral for outpatient behavioral health services under TRICARE. Coverage may vary by plan and duty status, so eligibility verification is recommended.

Veterans

Veterans using TRICARE-related family benefits or other coverage pathways may have different rules, so eligibility checks are important.

Reserve & National Guard

Reserve and National Guard members typically do not require a referral for outpatient behavioral health services under TRICARE. Coverage may vary by plan and duty status, so eligibility verification is recommended.
